_"THE UGLY FACE OF POVERTY"
Some say that this generation can eradicate poverty. Is it really possible and how
?

I realize what I'm about to write is not very popular, but this is something I struggle with.

Jesus said, "The poor you will ALWAYS have with you." So, when we say we can "end poverty", are we contradicting what our Saviour told us?

Jesus was quoting a verse from Deuteronomy, by the way, which goes on to say "...therefore I command you saying, 'you shall freely open your hand to your brother, to your needy and poor in your land.'"

So, I struggle with whether we are actually called to end poverty. If I read Scripture correctly, maybe we're just called to give...to share...to give justice to those who are without it, to speak for those who have no voice. Maybe it's an obedience thing. Maybe God allows poverty, so that His glory can be shown, through His people, doing His work.

Maybe it's not about ending poverty. Maybe it's about ending the injustice that victimizes the poor. Maybe it's about making sure that not another child dies of malnutrition or preventable disease. Maybe it's about making sure the needs of the poor are met...a cup of cold water...in Jesus' name.

Just a thought.

To be honest, I doubt that humanity can work together long enough to feed and clothe everyone. On a practical level, we would need the United Nations to deputize a massive army for the enforcement of humanitarian aid.

As believers we have a duty to do what we can. When many people do that, it can have a huge impact. Unfortunately, our only guarantee of worldwide salvation comes after seven years of hell on earth. I wish we knew how many generations we had from now to then.

Still, I've been proven wrong before. HOPE REMAINS.

Your question is interesting...
OF COURSE the possibility to eradicate poverty exists...this possibility has existed for generations past, as well - which leads to a the first component: the WILL to make it happen.
Other component? Strategy, education, and prayer
Which this CAN happen, there's also a spiritual component of approaching this God's way (with tenacity and perseverance).
It's refreshing to see the next generation free from materialism and passionate about making a difference. My hat is off to them and I'm toasting their leadership...my generation needs YOU. We need to follow your courageous approach to life.
